OlympiCs

and so, singapore's women table tennis team won the silver medal in the end. it took us a gd 48 years b4 we won something again. seriously, will it take us another 48 years to obtain the next medal? by then i'll be 71 years old le. quite a scary tot yeah?
*
so i guess, it's worth taking time off to watch tt match as it might take many many years for singapore to be able to compete in the top 3 placing again. not tt i look down on my own country, but.... well... i think all i can say is tt the environment is not there yet.
*
controversial issue tt our players are in fact foreign talents and not 'true' singaporeans. but wad to do? given a small nation like us with such a limited population, i guess we really do not have much choices but to spend huge sum of money in inviting these talents to play and win for singapore. it's quite sad, isnt it?
*
limited population is one thing. the other will be like wad i said earlier, the environment. we do not have world class facilites to facilitate trainings. we do not have the environment which encourages sports over studies. we do not have a society tt cherishes sportsmen more than scholars. we do not have children who emphasize on sports more than studies. more importantly, we do not have parents who will prefer their children to excel in sports than in studies.
*
all in all, i think in singapore, we r all too academically focused, and tt's y, it's very tough for singaporeans to excel in sports. the sportsmen in other nations, from young they train. probably out of 10hrs daily, 3hrs are used in studying while the rest are used in training while the vice versa is true in singapore. and.... which singaporean parents will want their children to go thru such tough trainings from young? between rain and shine and tough endless hrs of training vs sitting down and studying in an air-conditioned room, which 1 do u prefer? which 1 do u want for ur kid? in singapore, we are generally more well-off and naturally the children are more precious. why made them go thru such trainings when they can have the easy way out, right?
*
many efforts are done to promote sports in singapore. but... making sports 1st and studies 2nd is something which i dont foresee will happen in the near future. singapore-born sportsmen winning medals in olympic games... it's not impossible, but... i dont know how many years it'll take. till then, let's juz continue to lend our support to the players bought by singapore. afterall, they r playing for our dear singapore, arent they?

and, this afternn caught the man's table tennis match btw hongkong and korea. it's really entertaining. i never knew table tennis can be played like tennis! among the so many ball games, i sincerely think table tennis is one of the easiest cuz the movement is restricted around the table. u don have to run like mad around the court/field so i supposed it's less energy consuming. but the match this afternn proved me wrong. the guys were playing table tennis as if they were playing tennis. they had to move soo far away from the table to catch the balls and they have to move ard constantly. it was a real gd match. real spectacular.

and had my 1st driving lesson today. nothing much.. though im at the driver's seat but the instructor helped me most of the time in controlling the steering wheel. felt like a puppet cuz i simply did wad he told me to. if he din tell me to look into the mirrors, to check the spots, to signal, i think i wont. it's like.. im not thinking lorr.. haii.. gotta be more zai and know exactly wad to do and wad not to... and hubb said on his 1st lesson, he already had the chance to go onto the road and try on different gears.. but i did not lei.. was left to learn turning in the carpark. o well.... i guess i can only blame it on the heavy rain. not tt im lousy so he din bring me out.. but due to the heavy rain. haha.. external locus of control eh?
