urghhh.. it's really hot hot and hot these days!!!
the long 'awaited' event is finally over!! am i not glad!!!!!
sat afternn was spent for the last preparation for this event. one of the 'hi-lights' was the using of balloons to attract attention. the 1st hiccup happened when upon delivery, the chioest and biggest balloon was burst, 3 were wrongly delivered and there were 2 other balloons that were half-deflated and unable to 'float'.
the person did a replacment but the biggest one was the last piece and there was no replacement for that. according to the person, the balloon burst due to the change in air pressure when travelling in the elevator from 1st to 34th floor in a short span of time. but in the first place, they already knew that they were going to deliver the balloons to such high level, so they shld have known better and shld have ways to prevent it from bursting, isint it?????
and then, 2nd hiccup came, when he told us that the helium balloons are unsuitable for outdoors due to the heat. apparently if the weather is hot, the air in the balloon will expand and might cause the balloons to burst. o really huh? but i tot i did see pple holding helium foil balloons outdoor to sell????
and the 3rd hiccup came, when the balloons were unable to float, when we pasted some tapes on them. apparantly, the helium are so specifically measured, that they can only carry the weight of the balloon when it is filled. anything added on will over-weigh the balloons and they cannot float. stunned right??!!
so, something new to learn about helium balloons huh! 1) avoid drastic pressure and temperature change. 2) no outdoor. 3) no additions to the balloons.
in the end, we had no choice, but to use sticks to hold those balloons that cannot float. had we known earlier, no need to spend so much on the helium balloons liao. normal ones will do!
and then on the actual day morning, there was thunderstorm. the wind was practically howling outside and it was raining. dont know why, i had difficulty sleeping that night. i was half hoping and praying for the run to be cancelled.. but unfortunately, the rain became smaller, and the run continued despite the drizzle.
me and 2 other members waiting at the start line for the run to flag off
seriously, i really think and worry too much liao. there were sooo many pple running and all are wearing tags (juz different color), i seriously have no idea why i was soo worried previously. with so many pple running, no one cares whether u were overtaken or whatsoever. and, so, i jogged leisurely. out of the 5 team mates, i did come back last, but at least, i wasnt the last in the whole running contingent. lol. it took me 39mins to complete the 5km.
me and my ex-dept colleagues
that's our game stall at the back
in the past, this event was not such a big hoo-haa. it was only this yr that it became such large scale. so much so that my dept had 2 committee teams working on this event, and the heads have sponsored much money into it. i had only wanted to go for the leisure run with my ex-dept colleagues when i was looped into the committee team.
being 'committee members', i should think the overall running of the event should be held responsible by all members. but obviously, this hadnt been the case. some members had obviously taken it easier than others.....
i really should learn to be smarter.
no more next time. i promise.
