day 5 started with a drive to rockingham. here, u can take the jetty to the nearby island to see penguins or whales. but we decided we do not exactly have the time to spare and the itin to see penguins/whales like abit boliao, so we decided to give it a miss. and we ended up taking pics at the beach and tt's all. so much for the long drive..
after that was to the long awaited fremantle! we purposely waited till friday to visit cux the market opens only on fri, sat and sundays. and long b4 i came, i already heard of how it's a must to try out the fish n chips and how delicious it can be. i even read somewhere that the fish n chips in fremantle is the best in the world!
dont know if it's a mental influence or wad.. but once we were at fremantle...i could smell fish n chips. serious!
there are a number of resturants there all selling fish n chips and other seafood. we settled for this one which is in the centre and crowded with pple. and their slogan is 'the original and still the best'.. so cant miss it, yea?
~ with the much accoladed fish n chips and grilled fish. indeed, it's fantastic! actually i hate battered fish cuz most of the times, the size of the fish is inflated with the super thick and oily battered skin and when the skin is removed, the fish flesh is indeed just a small tiny piece. i much prefer breaded fish. but here, the battered skin is not that thick, it's crispy and the fish is fresh and soft. so yep, indeed it's good. ~
~ this organic donut was bought at the fremantle market. one small little unattractive stall was selling them. i tell u, if it is said that fremantle sells the best fish and chips, then i will say fremantle market sells the best donuts!
i've never eaten a donut as nice as this!!!! ~
~ it's coated with sugar on the outside. it was hot and crispy. and it's got dark choco oozing out. soooo nice (ie if u dont mind the oiliness) !!! i think this is the best food throughout the whole trip. lol. im still missing it! ~
after that was a visit to the used-to-be fremantle prison.
~ toured around the ex-prison.. learnt about the life in the prison.. saw the cells.... and the evolution of the cells over time... ~
~ and the paintings that were done by the in-mates when the prison was di-commissioned.... ~
we also went and saw the execution ground where the death penalty convicts were hanged. too morbid to be posted here. anyway, australia has done away with capital punishment. mmmm.. when it comes to capital punishment, im always reminded of this GP question 'shld capital punishment be abolished'... so wad do u think?
the whole prison journey took us about 4 hours cuz hubb happily bought tickets for 2 types of prison tour. and to our surprise, we were the only 2 participants for the 2nd tour. i much wanted to back out, but i dont think they will refund us the money for the tickets, so no choice but to go long lor. so it was only me, him and our ang moh 'tour leader'. real bo liao leh.
and by the time it ended, it's time for dinner! went to try out another fish and chips restaurant - kaili's. it was also super crowded but we both agreed that the food at the 1st restaurant were much better.
~ tada! me and my half dozen oysters! i remb clearly this cost aud13 + some cents at the back. quite worth it, yea?~
~ not as good as those at the 1st restaurant - cicerello's ~
~ and when all the oysters went swimming in my stomach..... satisfaction :) ~
~ next was to ice-cream treat at a nearby ice cream shop. v sweet shop, isnt it?~
~ and when it's superrrr cold at night.... ~
