MaLDiVes Day 1 - 15/5/2013

now, as said, maldives was never really a targetted destination. we wouldnt even have thought about it, if not for the chancing upon at SIA website.. i always tot maldives is some exotic far-away angmoh country... but.. it's not!

the day before our trip. yes, stocking up of drinking water!!

ok, we admit we are cheapos. but we had heard how expensive things are over there. a penny saved, is a penny saved. cheapo aside, i also think it's stupid to pay so much more for something so cheap in sg. and indeed, a 1.5litre bottled water there costs usd3.50. real happy that we brought our own water over and need not kenna dock. and i also brought along a super big bottle which i managed to fill up using the cooler at the airport just before we board the plane. LOL!

our breakfast that morning, before boarding. mac breakfast, all time fav :)

morning flight..

the many vessels out in the sea

i must say, travelling on SQ, is always an enjoyment. always looking forward.

4.5hrs flight and there we are! on maldives land! the landing was a super cool one, cuz the plane literally landed on the point where the sea and land joins. everyone was like wow-ing when the plane landed. i suppose the pilots tasked to maldives are the more senior and experienced ones...

maldives international airport. at the capital - male

the airport. bit old. nothing much. nothing fantastic. many resorts/hotels booths. but..... when we returned, the departure hall inside (after checking-in) is a total different story. will talk more about that in the last post for the trip.

upon arrival, rep from the resort will meet us. was here waiting for the speed-boat to bring us to the resort.

depending on how far the resort booked is, the transfer from airport to the resort will either be speed-boats or sea-planes.

the speed-boat ride was an ultra bumpy one!! it was as if we were on a roller coaster! it was very rocky, which i didnt expect at all. lucky i wasnt pregnant or is someone who will get sea-sick easily. the whole ride was about an hour.. quite scary, really.. i also didnt know that the boat ride would take soo long. was half-wondering if we were cheated to board some unknown boat to nowhere..

yay! finally arrived. phew. our welcome drinks and snacks. check out my ultra big bottle behind the coconuts. keke.

our room. clean :)

the luggage loaded with water!! we were kidda worried about excess baggage with all these water, but lucky we were still within. hahaa. and lucky the bottles did not burst. lol.

i didnt really enjoy it on the first day. the wind was blowing very very strongly on the 1st day we arrived. the fine sands were blowing all over and hitting our legs. the feeling was as if many needles were pricking. we couldnt take off the sunglasses cuz that will risk the sand blowing into our eyes. the tripod couldnt stand on it's own cuz of the strong wind. and cuz of that, we couldnt take much pictures. it was quite bad, really.

i thought that was the normal weather in maldives and was quite upset about it cuz that will thawt our intention of having nice photoshoot. and how to enjoy when the sand is blowing all over like mad? luckily, the subsequent days were okay. we checked with the staff and were told that the day we arrived was one of the more 'stormy' days. and that also explained why the speed-boat ride was soooo bumpy that day.

the place where we had our meals everyday. lucky for us, the resort offered us free upgrade to full-board. ie. 3 meals inclusive. intially, the room booking included breakfast and dinner only, but with the free upgrade, lunch was included as well :) saved us some money again!

the meal place was always dimly-lighted, so all the food pictures didnt turn out too well. all 3 meals are buffet-style and they have different themes for the dinner every night.

nothing much on the 1st day. just reached, walk around, have a feel, that's all.

stay tuned for 2nd day :)
